Game Dev & Creativity

Whether your child is brand new to coding or already building their own projects, our game dev sessions meet them where they are. They'll start by creating fun games in Scratch and MakeCode, and as their confidence grows, they can explore other tools, like Unity.

Every session is built around creative challenges: kids design characters, build worlds and bring their ideas to life. Along the way they pick up real coding skills, logical thinking and problem-solving, all while having a great time.

Kids love getting hands-on, and our tech sessions give them the chance to play with robots, fly drones and explore virtual reality, no experience needed. Everything is provided, and our mentors guide every step.

From coding Codey & Rocky robots to stepping inside VR worlds, these sessions spark curiosity and show young people what's possible with technology. It's a chance to try things they wouldn't get to at school or at home.

Building with AI

AI is everywhere, and we think kids should understand it, not just use it. Our sessions introduce artificial intelligence in a way that's fun and accessible, whether your child is just curious or already experimenting at home.

They'll experiment with AI chatbots, explore how machine learning works, and start to understand the technology behind the tools they use every day. It's about giving young people the confidence to shape the future, not just be shaped by it.

VR, Robotics & Game Dev

Every session is packed with hands-on tech activities designed to inspire creativity and build real skills. Children rotate through three core disciplines:

  • Virtual Reality. Build and explore immersive 3D worlds using state-of-the-art Meta Quest 3 headsets and our own proprietary VR technology, built in-house from the ground up. Children learn spatial design, logic, and coding concepts while creating their own VR experiences.
  • Robotics. Program real robots to navigate challenges, respond to sensors, and complete missions. A brilliant introduction to engineering and computational thinking.
  • Game Development. Design and code original games from scratch using professional game engines. Children learn programming fundamentals while bringing their ideas to life.

Sessions are structured, age-appropriate, and designed so that every child, from complete beginners to experienced coders, can progress at their own pace.

Equipment

Over £1000 of Equipment Per Child

We provide everything your child needs, so there is nothing to bring. Each session, every child has access to:

  • Meta Quest 3 VR headset. State-of-the-art headsets running our proprietary VR technology for immersive coding and design sessions.
  • Laptop. High-spec laptops loaded with all the software needed for game dev, coding, and creative projects.
  • Robot kit. Individual robot kits for hands-on programming and engineering challenges.

That’s over £1,000 worth of tech per child, every single session. All equipment is maintained, updated, and ready to go.

Mentors

5 to 6 children per mentor

Our small group sizes mean your child gets genuine, personalised support every session. With five or six children to a mentor, nobody is waiting long for a hand.

All of our mentors are:

  • DBS checked. Fully vetted for safeguarding.
  • Trained in tech and youth engagement. They know how to make coding fun, accessible, and rewarding for every age group.
  • Passionate about technology. Many are studying or working in computer science, game design, or engineering.

Online Platform

Your child’s learning doesn’t stop when the session ends. Every member gets full access to our Game Dev Academy online platform, packed with:

  • Step-by-step courses. Structured learning paths in Scratch, Python, web development, and more.
  • Project-based challenges. Build real games and apps with guided tutorials designed for young learners.
  • Progress tracking. Children can see their achievements and continue projects between sessions.
  • Safe, moderated environment. A kid-friendly platform built specifically for our members.

Minecraft Mod Worlds

Minecraft Mod Worlds

Included for Half Term members and above, Minecraft Mod Worlds combines the game children already love with real coding education.

  • Custom mod creation. Children learn to build their own Minecraft mods using real programming concepts.
  • Multiplayer and companion accounts. Play together with friends and family on our modded worlds.
  • Structured challenges. Guided builds that build coding logic, problem-solving, and game design through Minecraft.
  • Play at home too. Access the worlds and mods from home to keep the fun going between sessions.

My son absolutely loves The Code Zone. He genuinely looks forward to his session every week and it’s been amazing watching his confidence and coding skills grow. The tutors are friendly, encouraging and make learning feel fun rather than like a lesson. As a parent, I love seeing him so excited about something that’s also teaching him such valuable skills for the future. He comes away proud of what he’s created and always wants to tell me about it. Really lovely club and definitely worth it — highly recommend!

My son attended Code Zone live lessons for several years. He is autistic, selective mute and struggled with school but wanted to learn game design so we signed him up. When he was struggling to attend school having the live lessons once a week gave us some much needed structure, but there was never any pressure to interact outside his comfort zone. His mentor was fantastic, absolutely understand George's needs and communicating via messages rather than expecting him to speak. There was a long period of time our son didn't speak to anyone outside our family except his mentor Nik, and that gave us hope. Although he now feels he has grown out of the clubs, it has given him a solid foundation in Python coding and helped him decide what elements of design he wants to pursue. Code Zone also has fantastic customer service, letting us know any time he missed a session and offering alternatives when necessary. Really thoughtful and proactive. Highly recommend!

The classes are well thought through and the instructors are great, they know how to talk to children and engage them. They actively check whether any of them needs any assistance and they are very quick to help them. My son has learnt a lot since he joined and he has had a lot of fun. The classes don't just teach coding, but also logic and problem solving, all while playing. Customer service also is exceptional.

My 8 year old son, Jacob, recently did a taster session with The Code Zone and he absolutely loved it. Jacob has ASD and loves to talk a lot when he's excited; his mentor, Meg, was incredibly patient and brilliant at keeping him engaged. It’s so heartening to find a hobby where he feels understood and supported. He had such a great time that we’ve already signed up for the monthly course. I am really happy with The Code Zone and the classes that my son attends. One thing that really stands out for me is the patience that the teachers have with the young people, my son is autistic so I always worry that teachers won’t understand him, or become frustrated by his needs, so I feel really happy that he is so engaged and happy in the class. The teachers are really supportive and patient and this is the type of energy I want around my child when he is learning. After one week he is now setting him self up for class and I don’t see him until it’s over. I really value safe secure environments where children can be themselves without fear and judgement, and he is definitely happy at the Code Zone.

My daughter had the BEST time in game dev with Code Zone, she engaged so well from the start and was guided brilliantly throughout. The session was really interactive and she loved being able to hack the game “Penguin Paddle”changing the sprite, switching up the colours and even making it more challenging! She was completely absorbed and didn’t want it to end, which says it all really. A huge shoutout to Jaz, her mentor, who was amazing at answering questions, keeping everyone engaged and making sure each child understood what to do. Such a supportive and encouraging environment 🙌 Would absolutely recommend for kids interested in coding or just trying something new!

Our nearly 10yo AuDHD child has always enjoyed coding, computer games and tech, but since being Home Educated has missed out. Having found The Code Zone, and especially Lauren his mentor, he has been super happy to be back to coding and making games again. Lauren is very patient, and we have found that he spends more time on Scratch and coding then playing his VR now which is a bonus! Looking forward to seeing him flourish over time!

We LOVE the Code Zone! everything about it works for our son, 8 who is diagnosed autistic and ADHD and doesn't usually engage in clubs/activities outside of school hours- especially not alone. But he loves his Tuesday session with Luna! They are so supportive and kind and knowledgeable and he's learning incidental coding without really realising because it is all so gamified.Honestly can't recommend enough.

The code zone are absolutely brilliant with my autistic son. They are extremely supportive, informative and inclusive going out their way to make sure my son’s needs are understood and met. My son finds it hard to settle into group activities but he has had no problems with his coding sessions and gets very excited for them. The groups aren’t too big so each child gets the help and support they need and it is a low stress environment where each child can go at their own pace.

Every session rotates through three hands-on activities: Game Development (designing and coding their own games), Robotics (programming real robots to complete missions), and Virtual Reality (building immersive 3D worlds using Meta Quest 3 headsets). No two sessions feel the same.
Nothing at all. We provide everything — high-spec laptops, Meta Quest 3 VR headsets, and individual robot kits. That's over £1,000 worth of equipment per child, every session.
We have three groups: Code Bugs (ages 6–8), Tech Builders (ages 9–10), and Future Makers (ages 11–16+). Each is tailored to the right level of challenge and creativity for that age group.
Absolutely. We hold the National Autistic Society Autism Inclusion Award and our mentors are specifically trained to support neurodivergent learners. Many of our most enthusiastic members are neurodiverse children who thrive in our patient, structured environment.
When you sign up for a club you'll automatically get access to The Code Zone online platform where your child can continue working on their games and projects and get mentor support.
